Hi Guys! Josh here co-host and creator of the Otaku Collective Podcast. And as a really good friend of our boy Reggie I'm here to recommend a new anime for everyone. That anime is Kaiju no. 8. https://youtu.be/JwF7bhvnCxI?si=rXG1cN3HM7Sus9gN "Here's the trailer."
Kaiju is set in a world in which monsters named kaiju regularly cause disasters. Japan is the country with the highest rate of kaiju attacks in the world and, to combat them, it establishes the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force. Kaiju are assigned a "fortitude level"—a scale indicating their overall strength, and are classified as honju—more dangerous, stronger kaiju, and yoju—smaller kaiju that can accompany or sprout off from the honju. Kaiju that have high fortitude levels or abnormal characteristics are given a number as an identifier based on when they first appear and are classified as daikaiju.
Now that you've gotten a brief synopsis on the anime lemme tell you why you should watch it. This show reminds me alot of the early seasons of Attack on Titan. A show that swept the world by storm with its own unique twists and turns. Kaiju no.8 this season has shown me how fun it is to watch anime with my brain turned off.
That's not to say the plot is baseless or bad. I just have fun watching, there's no over thinking or me trying to break every single thing down trying to guess ahead about plot points. It's a show that reminds me why I started anime in the first place cuz it's cool.
The show follows the man character Kafka a 32-year old man just trying to live his dreams. His home town was destroyed by kaiju and he and his best friend swore to join the defense force and defend the country.
Obviously because it's anime his childhood friend Mina is the more successful of the two having become a leader in the force while he continues to struggle and fail exams. Until his momement comes and he has a parasite enter his body and that gives him the ability to turn into a kaiju.
After escaping the force he's subsequently named the title of the show and decides to join the force while hiding the fact he's one of the kaiju they're looking for. Hijinks and missions galore immediately follow and because of the success of the show this season a second one has been confirmed and will be streaming on crunchyroll in the future.
Now you may be wondering how can humans fight giant monsters besides the one guy who can turn into a monster himself and the answer is simple the make really cool weapons out of dead monster parts. Now what kind of weapons? You'll just have to watch and find out for yourself.
With that being said kaiju no.8 has 12 episodes which just wrapped up with the spring season of 2024 so you guys should be able to binge uninterrupted. With the offical Otaku sign of approval I give Kaiju No.8 a solid 8.5/10 a must watch.
Thanks for reading my post and I hope this reccomendation helps you guys out.
